Bookings for quilter rental must be made by the Monday prior to the week of hire, to ensure that the quilting machine is available.

Pre-Rental Class

You must attend a class prior to rental of the Sweet 16 or the Avanté machine.   The class will be run on the Friday prior to the rental period.

You will be provided with a quilt sandwich for the class.  You will learn how to load the quilt on to the frame, how to turn the machine on and off, load a bobbin and check tension, bring up the bobbin thread, thread the machine, adjust the tension, use and maintain the machine, how to use a groovy board (Avanté only).

If you are experienced in using a long arm machine, you will need to show competence in lieu of attending a class.

The cost of the class is $25.

Rental Costs

All rentals are prepaid.

Rental costs for the Avanté for 4 hours are $75 or for 7 hours are $125.

Rental costs for the Sweet 16 are $15 per hour, with minimum of 2 hours and hourly increments thereafter.  The initial minimum rental cost of $30 must be paid at the time of reservation.

Rental is by reservation only.  Rentals over the phone must give credit card details for processing.

Rental time commences at the time reserved – if you are not here at the allotted time, you are still paying for the time.  If another person has rented the machine after you, must vacate the machine even if you are not finished your quilting.

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance, to receive a refund of the rental costs.  Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the booking are non refundable.

The first two hours of rental after taking the class will be supervised by a staff member.  If further supervision/assistance is required, then this will be charged at an hourly rate of $20 (unless there is an issue with the machine itself, and not user error).

Wadding must be purchased from SEWPatchnQuilt.

Quilters quilt at their own risk.  Quilting machines are maintained regularly to keep in good working order.  However, they are machines, and sometimes don’t work the way we expect.  SEWPatchnQuilt  is not responsible for unpicking errors or replacing fabric.

You must use our thread.  If a particular colour is required that we don’t have, let us know at least 2 weeks prior to your session, so we can order it in for you.

Variegated or speciality threads are not permitted until you have quilted several quilts and demonstrated that you are self-sufficient.

Groovy Boards & Rulers

We have a growing number of groovy boards and rulers available.  Let us know in advance if we don’t have the pattern you want, so we can order it in.

Other requirements

Needles and leaders are provided for the first rental.  If you plan to hire the quilting frame on a regular basis, it is strongly recommended that you purchase your own leaders.  This will enable you to pin your quilt to the leaders at home, and save you valuable rental time, leaving you more time to actually quilt.

You will need to bring own stencils, pounce, etc for quilt marking.
