Classes are available for all levels of sewing, from beginners to advanced.  We offer classes in patchwork, machine embroidery, bag making, software, dressmaking and general sewing.  We pride ourselves on helping you learn new skills in a fun and friendly environment.  Wednesdays are devoted to our social sewing event where we create, stitch and gather – come along and join us for a day of fun, where you bring your own project to work on. Beginner sewing classes are held on Monday mornings, Monday evenings and Thursday mornings – let us help you begin your sewing adventure in a fun and friendly and not-threatening atmosphere!  We aim to get you comfortable with sewing – it’s not that scary, we promise!  Fridays are devoted to beginner patchwork – if you wanted to learn how to make your own quilts, this is the best class for you.  Kid’s are also catered for, with our regular Thursday and Saturday Kid’s Club.

Are you frustrated or confused about Free Motion Quilting?…….There’s no need to be!
Pauline Rogers is coming to town and she is going to show you just how easy Quilting can be! Learn how to quilt your own Quilts, saving time and money.

THERE WILL BE TWO WORKSHOPS…$75-00 EACH Workshop + Requirements

Time: 9am for a 9.30am start.  Finish at 4.30pm

DAY ONE: P Plates – A Skill Building Workshop ON WEDNESDAY THE 9TH OF AUGUST

During this Class you’ll explore the wonderful world of curves step by step with different forms of meandering and stippling – stitching circles, hearts, flowers and spirals, and experimenting with feather shapes. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to experiment with a selection of tools that make Machine Quilting even easier.

You’ll discover how to use threads to enhance your Quilting. By the end of the Class you’ll be ready to add new flourishes to your Quilts. You’ll also be ready to move onto achieving your Open Licence…!

DAY TWO: Open Licence – A Fine Tuning Workshop ON THURSDAY THE 10TH OF AUGUST

In this Class, under Pauline’s guidance, you’ll discover first-hand how to easily manoeuvre the bulk of your Quilt under the machine, while putting all your new found Quilting skills to good use. You’ll learn about choosing designs to suit your Quilt and methods to putting the designs onto your Quilt Top. You’ll bring along a small Quilt sandwiched together ready for Quilting or if you don’t have a Quilt Top sandwiched and ready to Quilt you can get a Kit complete with a special Skillbuilder.

After this Workshop you’ll be ready for the freedom of the open road on your own. You’ll have the knowledge and the confidence to tackle any size Quilt…and all those UFO’S.

“Let’s Get Organized” Bag Club

We’ve joined with to bring you a monthly pattern series based on the theme “Let’s Get Organized!”

Not only will you have useful projects to organise your home, work space, and car, but you’ll learn useful skills and techniques to increase your sewing skill repertoire. Learn how to make your own bias binding, create zippers of any length by adding zipper pulls to zipper tape, cover strapping with fabric to coordinate with your projects, sew with vinyl, make mesh pockets and so much more!

When: 21st August (“Power Trip”); 25th September (“Just in Case”); & 30th October (“All Aboard Train Case”)
Time: 9.15am to 3pm
Cost: Each Class is $25, plus pattern and requirements
Bookings are essential.

Our next bag will be the “Power Trip” – a sturdy carrying case perfect for storing and carrying all sorts of things! Some pre-cutting will be required, so Please book in and arrange your fabrics by Friday 18th of August.

The September Bag is the “Just in Case” – two handy folding organizers feature inner zippered pockets made from mesh and vinyl for security and easy visibility – perfect for use in the car as a travel sewing kit, first aid kit, document holder.

The October Bag is the “All Aboard Train Case” – a stylish carry case for carrying cosmetics, jewelry, first aid supplies and more! Perfect for travel!

Patchwork Classes

Beginner’s Patchwork Club

Join us each Friday for a fun-filled class, suitable for beginner patchworkers.  Some classes will have a set project, others will be a project of your choice, to learn the basics of patchwork. Bring your fabrics and tools, such as rotary cutter, ruler, mat, etc..

Accuquilt Demo

“SCAN n CUT” Basics – Beginner Class

Are you new to Scan N Cut? Or have you had your Scan N Cut for a while, and haven’t really mastered it? Or are you just not confident in using it?

Time to dust off your Scan N Cut, and get back to basics! Bring along something you would like to cut out and Terri will run through the process from the beginning. It’s not so scary!

When: Thursday 31st August, 9.30am – 1.30pm
Cost: $25

You will need your Scan N Cut, all accessories and mats and your project – for example, an applique design, fabrics you want to fussy cut, or fabrics for a patchwork block.

“L-Plate” Sewers

dressmaking-intAre you new to sewing?…. Come along on Thursday’s and learn whatever sewing techniques you need to complete your wonderful new sewing adventure! Bring your own Project, whether it be a dress, quilt or bag, along with all your sewing gear, and complete it in a friendly, helpful environment.

Great for beginners who want some help getting a project started whether dressmaking or patchwork or those who want to work on UFOs or class projects.

Free Bernina Workshops

Learn how to use the ruler set for easy machine quilting.

Workshop is free, but you will need to purchase the ruler kit.

Sew a Pink Apron for A Pink Ribbon

We are partnering with National Breast Cancer foundation and Brother International and supporting the Pink Ribbon Breakfast campaign!

August is Sew a Pink Apron Month – make a pink apron for the cause! Your apron will be used in a display at the Brisbane Craft and Quilt Fair in October and at various Pink Ribbon Breakfast fundraising events. Our Sew a Pink Apron sewalong will be held on Friday 25th August @9.30am – 1pm – come and sew a pink apron with us!

Our Pink Breakfast/Brunch will be held on Friday 27th October, from 10am. This will be a fundraising event, to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. More details closer to the date. In the meantime, get your apron sewn!

“Days For Girls Australia”

This is a program that provides feminine hygiene products for girls in underprivileged countries abroad. Each month, we will be holding a “Days for Girls Sewing Bee”. Everyone is welcome to join in, you don’t need to be a sewer, there are lots of jobs for all.

When: Monday 14th August, 11th September, 9th October, 13th November, 11th December.
Time: 9.30am – 3.30pm.

We need donations of good quality cotton fabrics for the project. Please let us know if you can make a donation or attend our Sewing Bee.

Bring along your sewing machine and/or overlocker, some threads, and your sewing kit if you will be a sewer.

IMG_0479BYO machine and sewing tools. We can help you get your tools together – we are competitive with the big box stores and have everything you need. We also sell a great range of beginner sewing machines, with unlimited after-sales service and support.

We respectfully ask that you purchase your requirements at Sew Patch n Quilt.  You will find that we offer good value for money and can give expert advice and help when choosing your requirements, including sewing machines.

Class Booking Policies for 2017

  • Bookings are required for all classes.
  • Full payment of short term classes is required at the time of booking. You will be given your requirements list when full payment is made.
  • Long term classes require a $50 deposit. This deposit is secured as payment for the last two classes in the course, at which time no class payment is required. Each class is paid for on the day of class. This deposit is non-refundable in the event you stop coming to class, but is transferable if more than 72 hours’ notice is given of cancellation.
  • Class deposits are otherwise non-refundable, unless the class is cancelled by Sew Patch n Quilt.
  • Class fees for in-house tutors are non-refundable unless your position can be filled by a replacement and the class is able to proceed. If the position is unable to be filled, the class fee will not be refunded or transferred to another class and payment will be forfeited.
  • Classes by visiting tutors require full payment prior to class. Class fees for visiting tutors are non-refundable under any circumstances, unless the class is cancelled by Sew Patch n Quilt.
  • We reserve the right to cancel a class due to lack of numbers. Four students are required for a class to proceed for most tutors.
  • A full refund of your class fees/deposit will be provided in the event of cancellation by Sew Patch n Quilt.
